First #DoubleDownie day a massive success!

Categories // Acro, Gymnastics For All, Men's artistic, Women's artistic

On Sunday 13th December at Notts Gymnastics Academy we had our very first Double Downie day. Gymnasts from all over the country came to take part in a training session with Becky and Ellie Downie, they were also joined by Notts other elite squad members including England squad members Jessica Coombs and Caitlin Williams, BG squad members Scarlett Williams, Isla Lees and Ramiyah Kofi and 2014 Espoir floor champion Laura Kaletha.

The gymnasts took part in a 3 hour session led by Becky, Ellie and Notts high performance and senior coaches. All gymnasts also had the opportunity to ask the Double Downie's questions, have photographs and autographs with the girls.

The whole day was fantastic and enjoyable experience for all, the feedback has been so amazing that we will be anonouncing more dates in 2016. Keep an eyeout on our website, facebook and twitter for details.

Successful weekend for Notts boys at National finals!

Categories // Acro, Gymnastics For All, Men's artistic, Women's artistic

Last weekend 8 boys competed for the East Midlands team at the National finals in Birmingham.

Kian Keogh got the weekend off to a great start in the club development grade level 1. An impressive 9.5 on vault and a 9.7 on pommel as well as a strong display on the remaining apparatus gave Kian a score of 60.05 placing him in 30th place individually, helping the East Midlands team to achieve 3rd place and a Bronze medal!

Two of our boys were part of the club level 3 team, Luke Harrison and Finley Risby. The boys made some mistakes but competed very well, finishing 47th and 50th respectively. Indi Watson represented the region at level 4, contributing to their 8th place finish. At level 6 Sam Plant performed very well and achieved 16th place overall.

The following day at Elite level, Liam Jury produced a fantastic clean performance to score 68.45, a total 5 whole marks higher than his score at the London Open in September, achieving 13th place overall. At Elite level 4, John-Paul Neylon overcame some mistakes with a strong performance on a number of pieces, scoring 63.225 and achieving a 17th place finish.

At Elite level 6, Tyla-Jae Curtis and Matt Boardman made up a 2 man team for the East Midlands. They performed with great confidence and had a very good competition. Tyla finished in 7th place with a score of 61.475 and Matt in 8th place with 54.4. They also achieved a fantastic 3rd place as a team receiving bronze medal, which will hopefully give them great confidence going into the British U14 championships next month.
