Between Tuesday 3rd January - Sunday 8th January, the gym will be open but there will be no access via the leisure centre. There will only be access to the gym via the outside route, the path and steps to the left of the leisure centre entrance. This will cause problems for anyone with pushchairs etc as there will be no ramps, only stairs.

Between Monday 9th January - Friday 13th January, the gym will be closed and there will be no training for any group within the academy. This is due to essential utility work. Training will commence as normal on Saturday 14th January.

Between the 3rd - 13th January there will be no access to the leisure centre buildings including the sports hall and cafe area as building work will be taking place to create our new entrance.

Christmas Display 2016

Categories // GFA News & Competitions, Acro, Gymnastics For All, Men's artistic, Women's artistic

Saturday 17th December saw over 100 athletes from across our three flagship disciplines come together to create our Fairy tale Christmas Showcase. The spectacular display consisted of individual and group performances with some delightful choreography and creative ideas on show, as well as some heart stopping moments…Santa performing a double front somersault with one and a half twists from the trampoline being just one of them!

The day was a fantastic opportunity to recognise our Athlete and Coaching Team’s achievements throughout 2016 with a select number of performers from our Men’s and Women’s disciplines producing some wonderful work on the apparatus and showing their medal winning skills. Highlights included English under 16 Floor Champion; Matt Boardman completing 3 ½ twists in a single somersault followed by a 2 ½ twist backwards connected with a ½ twisting forward somersault, with nine-year-old Beatrice Hill showing nerves of steel and opening the show with a faultless performance on the balance beam.

Our competitive Gfa groups laid on some fantastic group displays, showcasing a wonderful mix of choreographed dancing and new tumbling skills. The R1 girls working to the theme of the Nutcracker and the C2 girls dancing to a cheeky little number dressed as Elves were just some of the festive delights on display.

From the Ugly ducklings (WA development) to the lost boys of Neverland (MA section) and everything in between, the showcase provided the audience with an early Christmas treat and rounded off what has been, a hugely successful year for the Academy. Our medal winning gymnasts from County, Regional, National and International competitions received a mention in our roll call and it was a magnificent sight to see such a large number of athletes receive a rousing applause for their individual achievements.

Academy Performance Director; Adam Folwell, was over the moon with the efforts of his wonderful team of coaches and athletes and can’t thank the army of volunteers enough. The showcase simply wouldn’t have been such a success without the efforts of the dedicated parents who co-ordinated the advertising, ticket sales, refreshments, stalls, amazing raffle prizes and many other areas associated with such a large event. It is a privilege to work alongside and have such fantastic support from a special group of people and long may it continue!

2016 has provided the Academy with a renewed sense of positivity and whilst 2017 will undoubtedly provide us with some challenges, beginning with the sad departure of our long serving office administrator- Rochelle Leake. I am however, hugely confident that the team will pull together and we will continue to make strides forwards on and off the gym floor.

Thanks again for all of your support throughout 2016, and I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
