Brilliant day for Notts boys at North West Open Championships!
This past weekend saw a number of our men's artistic squad travel to the Robin Park arena in Wigan for the North West Open competition, the first 6 piece competition of the year for the boys. In the morning session we had 10 boys representing NGA in the under 10 category. In a strong age group, we managed to place 5th and 6th respectively in the team competition. The team of Niall Storer, Oscar Sampson, Zakaine Fawzi-McCaffrey, Lucas Bowen and Alfie Heard finishing 5th, and the team of James Norman, Noah Farnsworth, Callum Haywood, Marty Jackson and Phoenix Frost finishing 6th. To add to the team results, Zakaine had a very strong competition finishing 8th all around, he also managed a 5th place on P Bars and an excellent 2nd place on Pommel! Marty Jackson came away with our first gold medal of the day with a brilliantly performed Vault!

Onto the afternoon competition which saw our older boys compete. In the u12 age group, some good performances saw the team of Alex Yolshina-Cash, Colbi Curtis, Harry Clarke, Leo Hoggard and Harry Norman come away with 3rd place in the team competition! Alex also managed 5th place in the all around, and also 6th on floor and 5th on the high bar, he also came away with 3rd place on pommel. On the vault, both Alex and Harry Clarke got joint 5th place with two well performed vaults. We had Liam Jury representing us in the u14 competition, Liam only performed on 4 pieces due to injury but he managed to come away with an excellent 3rd place on the P bars, and also 6th on pommel and 4th on high bar.

On to the u16 competition and the two man team of Matt Boardman and Conor McGrath had a fantastic completion and managed to win the Team Gold! Adding to that, Matt had a flawless competition winning the All-Around Gold, and also winning 5 of the 6 apparatus as well, he came away with gold on Floor, pommel, rings, p bars and high bar, and also 2nd place on Vault. Conor also had a great competition coming 2nd in the all around, also winning the silver medal on floor and rings, and achieving 3rd place on vault, p bars and high bar. In the u18 age group, Tom Morley competed on Floor and Vault. After a couple of small mistakes on floor, he managed to regain composure and perform a fantastic Handspring Front Vault in which he stuck it dead!
A huge well done goes to all the boys for their efforts and achievements in this competition!
