GFA Competitive Groups at County Floor and Vault

Categories // GFA News & Competitions

On Sunday 25th September fifteen gymnasts from our GFA competitive groups R1, R2 and C1 competed at the County Floor and Vault in Retford. This competition was aimed at level 5 gymnasts alone and was a qualifier for the County Teams competition to be held in November.

It was an exciting day before the competition even started as for 10 of the girls it was their first time competing at Level 5.

Floor was our first piece of the day. There were a lot of new routines being tried out for the first time in competition by our younger gymnasts from R2 and nerves did come into play but all the girls showed how committed and brave they were by finishing their routines and they should be very proud of themselves. The C1 girls, competing for the first time at this level, performed very well and did not look out of place against more experienced gymnasts. The girls from R1 performed strongly with some beautiful routines and powerful tumbles.

Vault was a closely contended piece with less than 1 mark separating 1st place to 20th place in both the 8/9 and 10/11 age ranges and less than 2 marks in the 12/13 age. We saw some fantastic and tight flatbacks from the R2 girls. From C1 and R1 we had strong handsprings and half on half offs with stuck landings (though we did see a few bendy legs....tut tut).

Huge congratulations to Charlotte Simpson who qualified for the Nottinghamshire County team, what a fantastic achievement.

Highlights of the day – Steph Booth for displaying amazing bravery

Quote of the day – “ I don’t care how it looked, I got over it!” Martha Turner, C1, talking about Vault.

Well done to all the girls you should all be very proud of yourselves, your coaches are.

C1 Girls and Boys Compete Advance Levels at GFA Regional Floor and Vault

Categories // GFA News & Competitions, Gymnastics For All

Last week the C1 competitive groups competed at the Primary levels Floor and Vault championship. This week was the turn of the Advanced level gymnasts to compete with 9 other clubs from the region. The morning competition was time for the C1 girls to shine.

Despite the temperatures soaring the girls performed their floor routines beautifully and powered through their vaults with determination. There were so many individual achievements during the morning. One such achievement was Zara Brittain nailing her handspring to 1 in her floor routine, which she had been struggling with during training – perfect timing! The final results were fantastic with Millie Green taking overall bronze in  the 11yrs group. Jessica Pollard became the Floor and Vault Regional Champion taking gold in the 10yrs group AND the highest overall score in the whole competition.

With Andy Smith, their coach, looking on the boys started on vault. Good strong handsprings with stuck landings gave the boys a fantastic start to their afternoon. Floor followed with the boys putting their all into performing their set routines for the judges. Jake and Wades hard work gave them results which had them smiling from ear to ear.

R1 group perform display at Tollerton fair

Categories // GFA News & Competitions

On Saturday 10th June 8 members of the R1 competitive group, with a special appearance from Noah Farnsworth from mens development elite, attended the Tollerton Fayre to show off their skills to over 200 visitors to the annual event.

Despite strong winds threatening to blow the marquee’s away the girls treated the onlookers to a variety of gymnastics from full floor routines to acrobatic skills using trampette.

Kara Plaats, Jemima O’Neill and Katie Hyland all performed their individual floor routines for the crowd before joining the rest of the group to show off their front somersaults, tuck back somersaults and birani’s from the trampette.

All the gymnasts were fantastic performing their 20 minute routine in less than favourable conditions and the feedback from the public was amazing.

Well done to all the gymnasts involved and a big thank you to parents who gave up their afternoon.

Molly Nicholls, Jemima O’Neill, Honey Farnsworth, Olivia Gladstone, Katie-May Hyland, Emma Richardson, Darcey Cox, Kara Plaats and Noah Farnsworth.
