Gfa in-house competition

Notts Gymnastics Academy held, on the 20th Novemeber, their very first Gfa in-house competition which was a great succes. All those involved please down this message from the Jack Duggan (Head of Gfa).

Below is some information about the competition for those not involved and that might interested in future competitions similar to this one.

About the competition

This year’s in-house Gfa competition is based on the British Gymnastics’ Key Step competition but has been tweaked to suite all age groups within the academy.

This competition is built up of four steps (levels):

  • Step 1: Key stage one – Years one and two at school (4 to 6 years old)
  • Step 2: Key stage two – Years three and four (7 to 9 years old)
  • Step 3: Key stage three – Years five and six (9 to 11 years old)
  • Step 4: Secondary – Years seven to eleven (12 to 16 years old)

Each step has three different aspects to be learnt and judged:

  • Floor routine – this is built up of several key gymnastics skills
  • Body management routine – this is built up of several key gymnastics movements which are focused around strength and flexibility
  • Vault – this is a choice of two different vaults

Why the Key Step competition model?

This competition is a nationally recognised competition within schools and clubs, which can be adapted to suit the needs of the academy. This competition also closely links to the Proficiency Badge Scheme which your gymnasts would have been working towards within the Gfa sessions.

Your gymnast(s) have started working towards these routine as part of their sessions since the start of September 2016 and will continue to do so up until the competition.
