Gfa competitive - C1 boys

Within our Gfa competitive pathway we drive to provide the opprotunity for all gymnasts to be the best they can be while not having the extra requirements that our elite Men's and Women's pathways require.

Our pathway is a great link to and from the Gfa programme, Preschool programme and both the Men's and Women's elite programmes.

"Remember - every gymnast has the ability to shine, as a team we have to find what it is they able to shine their brightest at."

Jack Duggan (2016) - Head of Gfa at Notts Gymnastics Academy

Why my gymnast?

Gymnasts who have been asked to join our competitive sessions have showed signs of more advanced levels of flexibility, coordination, strength, focus and good behaviour.

Don't worry if your gymnast hasn't been chosen yet, anyone can progress into the compeitive sessions by working hard and by willing to work with their coaches to improve in all areas.

What does this involve?

Gymnasts within the competitive sessions will generally be working towards the following competitions:

  • East Midlands under 8’s floor and vault competition
  • East Midlands over 8’s primary 2 floor and vault competition
  • East Midlands over 8’s primary 2 four piece competition
  • East Midlands over 8’s primary 1 advanced and advanced plus floor and vault competition
  • East Midlands over 8’s primary 1 advanced and advanced plus four piece competition

We also do have other competitions throughout the year that your gymnast maybe entered into throughout the year. Each competition will be advertised by the coaches and on our News and competitions page.

Please note: we will only enter your gymnast into the most suitable competitions to ensure they are able to achieve their maximum potential.

Our coaches are working to a scheme to ensure all gymnasts are given the opportunity to develop and show they able to progress into the Gfa competitive sessions. Each coach will discuss with the Head of Gfa any potential gymnasts for these sessions.

How often are the gymnast assessed to go into these sessions?

The sport of gymnastics is a fantastic sport which allow all gymnasts to develop in various pathways to allow them time to find their preferred and most suited pathway.

Notts Gymnastics Academy coaching team will always consider every gymnast on an individual basis as wil they work with you (as you are part of the supporting team for your gymnast) to ensure we haven't missed anyone out.

If you wish to speak further about your gymnast please either speak to your session coach (in an appropiate time and place) or email your thoughts and enquiry to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We strive to do the best for every gymnast but we are human and need your support too.

Why are these sessions different to Gfa sessions?

These sessions are more:

  • Competition focused
  • Train more times and hours each week
  • Work towards more advanced skills

Whereas the Gfa sessions are focused on the key skills of the sport. The Gfa sessions also introduces the gymnasts into the various aspects of gymnastics allowing them to explore their options within our great sport, if thats competitive, display or coaching etc.
