Becky warms up to return to competitive gymnastics, although she not compete this time.

Hannah Whelan - back-to-back British Champion!

City of Liverpool’s Hannah Whelan has been crowned the women’s senior all-around British Champion for the second year in a row!

Megan Bonnar, Chenay Elson and Billie MacKenzie all competed in Junior finals, while Niamh competed in the Seniors, Becky still not quite ready so took up the mike on BGTV’s line broadcast instead.


Whelan scored an impressive 56.350, three whole marks ahead of the rest of the field in front of her clubs home crowd at the Echo Arena. She was followed by Heathrow’s Danusia Francis, (53.150) who took the silver, with Whelan's teammate Jenni Pinches taking bronze, (52.850).

Hannah Whelan's teammate Rebecca Tunney took the junior all-around title and Beth Tweddle then went on to take both the floor and bars apparatus titles to cap off a great weekend for The City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club at the Echo Arena.

Niamh qualified in Seniors for vault and floor and Billie for beam in Junior apparatus finals.

Billie MacKenzie, Chenay Elson, Megan Bonnar and Nicole Pavier all competed in Junior finals, placed 7, 15, 17 and 27 respectively. Well done to all the girls on such at such an prestigious event.

Vault The senior vault saw Imogen Cairns take the gold with 13.925. She was closely followed by some impressive work from Danielle Mcnaney representing Hinckley Gymnastics Club with 13.525. Niamh Rippin took the Bronze medal. (13.475)

Floor World Champion on the floor, Beth Tweddle, showed great expression in her dance and really performed to the crowd taking the gold with 15.250. Niamh Rippin took the silver with 14.250 with an impressive routine after being out for some time with injury.

Gabrielle Jupp showed great confidence on the beam and some very promising work to take the title with 14.100. Bille Mackenzie, who also took the award for artistry for her work on this apparatus, followed Jupp in the silver with 13.850. Abi Caig not far behind took the bronze with 13.800.

Nottinghamshire County Champs

Rushcliffe Leisure Centre saw the return of the County Championships this year, previously the competition took place out of county at New College, Leicester. The event, hosted by Nottinghamshire Gymnastics Association, was open to all county clubs for girls aged 5 upwards.

Over 50 gymnasts took part on an extremely hot day!

The morning session was for Level 7 to Level 4, in and out of age categories.

Between Tuesday 3rd January -Sunday 8th January, the gym will be open but there will be no access via the leisure centre. There will only be access to the gym via the outside route, the path and steps to the left of the leisure centre entrance. This will cause problems for anyone with pushchairs etc as there will be no ramps, only stairs.

Between Monday 9th January - Friday 13th January, the gym will be closed and there will be no training. This is due to essential utility work. Training will then commence as normal on Saturday 14th January.  

Between the 3rd - 13th January there will be no access to the leisure centre buildings including the sports hall and cafe area as building will be taking place to create our new entrance.
