Below are some important messages regarding closures for Dec 16 – Feb 17.

Festive spirit

During the last week of term (starting Monday 19th December) the Academy will be getting into the festive spirit, so feel free to bring your Christmas jumpers/ t-shirts, tinsel in their hair or anything else you can come up with (that you can train in safely)!

December 2016 closures

Christmas break – 24th Dec to 4th Jan

NGA will break up for Christmas on Saturday 24th December 2016 and re-open for training from Wednesday 4th January 2017. The last Gfa adult’s session will be Wednesday 21st December 2016 and start again on 16th January 2017.

January 2017 closures

Leisure centre closure – Entering the gym

Wednesday 4th – Sunday 8th January 2017, access to the Academy will be via the outside steps/ pathway route to the left of the leisure centre. If you have a pushchair or wheelchair, you may have some difficulties accessing the gym as this pathway involves steps. Apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Essential maintenance works – 9th Jan to 13th Jan

Monday 9th – Friday 13th January 2017, NGA will be closed for work on the utilities to be carried out. The essential maintenance works, unfortunately cannot be avoided as we become a self-sufficient unit due to the closure of the Leisure Centre. There will be no Gfa adult’s sessions on these dates.

During the first two weeks of January, building work will be taking place to create a new entrance to the Academy through the middle of the Leisure Centre. We are hopeful that the new entrance will be available for use when the gym will re-open on Saturday 14th January 2017, and training will re-commence as per normal.

We shall keep all members posted if the works are to finish any different to planned.

Thank you for your patience during these closures and we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New

Kind regards,

Jack Duggan

Head of Gfa

Notts girls shine at British Espoir Championships!

Categories // Women's artistic

On Saturday 3rd December, Scarlett Williams, Ramiyah Kofi and Isla Lees competed in the British Espoir championships in Essex. Unfortunately due to injury Caitlin Williams was unable to compete.

Saturday was the AA competition with all 3 girls starting on beam. A difficult first piece to start on, some nerves showed for the girls but fantastic difficulty was performed, Isla showing her flexibility with beautiful leaps and Ramiyah demonstrating powerful acro elements with her high flic flic tuckback, Scarlett produced a stuck routine to score over 12.

Floor, only Isla and Ramiyah competed. Both girls balanced dynamic tumbling with excellent leaps Ramiyah scoring 12.6 and Isla a fabulous 13.7, this saw both girls into apparatus finals on Sunday. On to Vault, Isla showed 2 neat tidy yuchenkos in the tuck and pike position whilst both Ramiyah and Scarlett performed a straight and tuck yuchenko. Scarlett impressed to score 13.85 for her straight yuchenko. All 3 girls would perform again on Sunday in the apparatus finals.

The girls finished on bars, Ramiyah had a uncharacteristic fall on her tkatchev but completed her routine with confidence showing strong body line and a stuck double pike dismount. Isla reproduced her new routine including a tkatchev and double pike dismount to score 12.05, whilst Scarlett completed her routine with lovely handstands and a strong double straight dismount. These performances also saw all 3 girls in Sunday's apparatus finals.

In a strong field and with the earlier errors on beam, the girls showed their true professionalism to fight until the end of all 4 apparatus. Isla finished 6th overall in GB, with Ramiyah 17th.
